Six Ingredient Tea Biscuits {And A Recipe Contest!}

I holler over computer games and the Disney channel. "Who wants to help me make tea biscuits?"

"Me!" and Noa comes bounding up the stairs while everyone else pretends I don't exist.

"Are they easy?" she asks as I pin up her hair and tie a bow in her apron.

"Easy peasy!" I tell her.

I don't bake all that often. I hate the mess of it even though I enjoy the spoils. Noa is usually quick to come by my side and 'help' whenever the opportunity presents itself - she seems to love the mess (though mysteriously disappears when it comes time to clean.)

I measure. She dumps. I sift. She stirs. I roll. She cuts. We're a good team!

3 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup butter
1 1/4 cups milk

Bonus Ingredients (if you feel so inclined)
Raisins - for a sweeter biscuit
or Grated Cheese - for a nice flavour boost
or Chopped Onion - for a little interest
{or go really crazy and put cheese and onion together!}

Sift together dry ingredients. Add butter and milk (and optional raisins). Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Knead several times. Roll dough out to a 3/4 inch thickness. Cut into biscuits. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet (top with optional cheese, onion, or both). Bake at 425° for 10 to 12 minutes, until the bottoms are golden brown.

We have yet to find a meal that these don't compliment beautifully!

  3. I am so slowly getting caught up on your posts an feeling the strangest of urges to bake tea biscuits, kill spiders, and take a shower. By the way the whole adolescent boy thing will magically disappear into 2 - 3 daily showers when he truly discovers girls. Love your writing Alanna.
